The wait
Santosh Abraham
Have you ever waited on the Lord? David did! He waited a long time to become a king. David was probably 10 to 15 years old when he was anointed to be a future king by the prophet Samuel (1Samuel 16:13). However, David was 30 years old when he was finally crowned king of Israel (2 Samuel 5:4). Throughout that whole period of waiting, David faced adversity, disappointments, betrayals, heart breaks and sorrows. At many points in his life, it seemed like David would never become the king of Israel. There were times he wanted to just give up, but he kept his faith in the Lord.
In Psalm 27:14 (TPT), David wrote:
“Here’s what I’ve learned through it all:
Don’t give up; don’t be impatient; be entwined as one with the Lord.
Be brave and courageous, and never lose hope.
Yes, keep on waiting—for he will never disappoint you! “
One of the longest waiting periods in my life was the wait for my wife. I prayed for many, many years. During those long years, I faced a lot of heartache, discouragements and disappointments. I would faithfully declare God’s word over my situation hoping it would speed up the process.
I personalized Bible verses and declared things like “It is not good for Santosh to be lonely”! I was also very specific with my prayer requests. One day, I wrote down SEVEN pages of what I wanted in a wife. One of the requests, was that she would love Philly Cheesesteaks and we would not gain weight eating them together! Another MAJOR one for me was that she wouldn’t be a Cowboys’ fan and LOVE the Philadelphia Eagles!
I even asked God to show me what she looked like in dream or a vision. Believe it or not, He showed me my wife and exactly what she was wearing on our first date! I continued to have several dreams about the same girl throughout those years.
God does encourages us while we wait on Him. Some of the ways He may do this is through dreams, visions, songs, sermons, or an encouraging word from someone. We are never alone and God is always spurring us on, to not lose hope!
Psalm 37:7 says
“Quiet your heart in his presence and pray; keep hope alive as you long for God to come through for you. And don’t think for a moment that the wicked in their prosperity are better off than you.” (TPT)
After the six years of waiting, I figured that God might be waiting on me to be fully surrendered to what He wanted. I tossed my list and said “ Lord, just give me someone who really loves You!”
Shortly after that I finally met the girl of my dreams. I think I know what Adam felt like when he first saw Eve and said “Whoa- man! (Woman)”! When I saw Payal for the first time in person, I felt like God had custom made this beautiful woman just for me! My wife was truly worth the wait, even though she doesn’t care much for cheesesteaks or football!
Maybe you think God has forgotten you, or that He has not heard your prayers. At times, our prayers may be answered differently than what we expected.
Either way, we must trust Jesus and understand that He knows us better than we know ourselves. Trust Him! Your answer is truly worth the wait!
“For the Scriptures encourage us with these words: Everyone who believes in him will never be disappointed.”
Romans 10:11 (TPT)
